Often referred to as the “Oscars of Tourism,” the awards ceremony took place in Funchal, Madeira, bringing together the global titans of the tourism industry from five continents.
This back-to-back triumph cements the Azores as a bucket-list destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. Known for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, lush greenery, and unparalleled outdoor activities, the Azores offers a playground for adventurers. From hiking through pristine trails and diving in crystal-clear waters to paragliding over majestic cliffs, the region has something for everyone who craves exploration.
“Winning this award again highlights the unique appeal of the Azores as a sustainable and exciting destination,” said a spokesperson for the tourism board. “It’s a testament to our commitment to preserving the natural beauty and authenticity of our islands while delivering unforgettable experiences for visitors.”
The competition was fierce, up against the likes of Australia, the USA, Japan and Costa Rica, but the Azores stood out for its blend of rugged beauty and eco-conscious tourism. With initiatives focused on sustainability and responsible travel, the Azores have not only captured the hearts of adventurers but also set a benchmark for other destinations worldwide. The Azores’ tourism board, Visit Azores’, President Luís Capdeville told the World Travel Awards in an interview “in 2025, we are launching our brand new campaign around being the leading adventure destination, so be ready, we’re coming with news next year!”
As word spreads of this prestigious accolade, the Azores are poised to welcome even more visitors eager to discover why these islands have earned the title of World’s Best Adventure Destination. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping activities or serene moments in nature, the Azores is ready to deliver—and then some.
